Hydrogen Boosted Gas Engines
A new future in Gas engines – Hydrogen Boosted Gas Engines.
Rising cost of gasoline has engaged auto makers to work overtime to effectively improve the fuel economy, while still meeting the strict effictively requirements of today with gasoline engines.
However they(auto engineer) have discovered a promising discovery. By adding hydrogen to fuel/air mixture in the engine can boost the fuel economy,Because local gas stations have not hydrogen with them, selling a hydrogen boosted gas engine wasn’t on the list of engines – until now.
Lack of emission
The big advantage and significance of hydrogen boosted gas engines are low amounts of NOx emission gas, which will completely eliminate the need for external NOx emissions control.
As you may know or not, presently it is a major costing for diesel engines which use expensive traps to meet the emission standards for NOx control. With diesel it particulate emission that must be collected by a filter that should be changed periodically.
On the other hand, neither Nox nor particulate control is required by Hydrogen boosted engines instead it requires a low cost oxidation catalyst to control very small amounts of exhaust which is formed mostly during the engine starting up and warming up.
Additional cuts in emissions control requirements stem from the engine’s ability to use only the clean hydrogen enriched charge during the cold start phase when 90% of emissions are generated in the emission test.
Cost
Now coming to the cost of this system, according to those developing the system, the cost of the system is less than half of the added cost for diesel. As the hydrogen boost system is effectively a bolt on technology that can be added to an existing vehicle’s engine compartment.
The future
The installation of prototype hydrogen boosted engines is being done in test SUV vehicles that have sufficient space for the reformer and it’s related system. For performance, reliability and durability to be checked, the start of long term road testing is planned for later on in the year before the system goes further into development.
The prime candidates for technology are supposed to be four cylinder gasoline engines as high gas prices continue to generate competition among the higher fuel economy models that seek MPG leadership.
Today when the gas prices are touching the sky, there is a must needed offer by hydrogen boosted gas engines to to get more miles per gallon and not have to worry about burning up all of your fuel. Now you not need look towards diesel while hydrogen is there to preserve gas.
However there is still need of patience as they are not available right now but will come soon. You alone are not waiting for it there are many manufacturers looking into them, as they offer gasoline engines something like never before.Again I will suggest if you own a gas powered vehicle and are planning to replace it with diesel, you must wait and think.
